Transporting logs
riga

Logs were driven to slide down a natural canyon, steep and narrow, lùda, or less frequently down artificial chutes built with logs , rìjenes.
The logs were fastened by a wedge equipped with ring and chain were hauled by horses and piled up by the forest roads.

The logs would remain in the forest until the first snowfalls. Then they were loaded onto horse-drawn sleds, lióşes, transported down to the valley, and piled in special places called štàzie.

All the horse owners of the valley were involved in these operations and were remunerated according to the length and difficulty of the route.
